CPS care closets offer students free hygiene products

WBBM NEWSRADIO  William J. Bogan High School in the Ashburn neighborhood has enough essential items for students to keep the school’s “care closet” stocked for three semesters.

The idea was the brainchild of Bogan counselor Jen Malley, who thought offering free care and hygiene items to students could help young people stay focused on academics.

There are nearly 70 care closets in the Chicago Public Schools system. Care closets are placed in discrete, accessible locations within a school building – no questions asked. “If you need it and we have it, it’s yours,” Malley said Thursday, as a new shipment arrived at Bogan.
